March 2016 Meeting
Our March meeting was held with the environment in mind and what we as gardeners should be doing to promote a healthy environment and healthy eating. Our speaker, Mr. Bill Duesing, gave a wonderful, wide-ranging talk about many earth-sourced issues, with his talk entitled, “Think Globally, Eat Locally”. Mr Duesing is currently Executive Director of the Community Garden of Simsbury and Past President of CT NOFA, and a prior Board member of the Connecticut Farmland Trust.
For 40 years, Bill has been an organic farmer, author, and environmental activist actively working to promote organic agriculture and greater local food sufficiency in Connecticut and the Northeast. The former Executive Director of CT NOFA, Bill was awarded the first Bill Duesing NOFA Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2015 NOFA Summer Conference.
In honor of Bill’s presentation at the Mystic Garden Club, a fabulous arrangement was done by Phyllis Ball. Very clever!
