Rooms & Blooms – was a huge success!
Over 1,100 visitors toured the 13 properties highlighted in the Rooms and Blooms: A Mystic House and Garden Tour on June 20. Despite the fog blanketing the river during the morning hours, the 13 gardens and 7 homes were at their loveliest. The tour was an eclectic mix of large and small, old and new, professional and non-professional gardens: there was something for everyone. An estimated 100 volunteers provided visitors with a welcoming smile and friendly greeting. The Mystic Garden Club and the Mystic River Historical Society are grateful for the support of our visitors and our community.

The 2009 Lyme/Old Lyme Garden Tour, “Art in Bloom,” offers visitors the chance to see six private gardens, each one unique in its design and focus—from a sculptor’s garden offering space to showcase his creations; to a former village church presenting ideas for small gardens; to a country garden featuring deer-resistant plantings. And as an added attraction, the Lyme/Old Lyme Garden Tour will feature local painters working en plein air, illustrating the qualities of the Lyme/Old Lyme region that make it an unparalleled milieu for creating art. The self-guided tour runs from 10am to 4pm, and visitors should allow at least three hours to complete the tour. Catered boxed lunches ($12) will be offered by advance reservation, and a Garden Boutique will tempt visitors with an array of unique and distinctive items for home and garden. Educational talks, included in the admission price, will feature gardening experts discussing such topics as organic gardening, composting, and planting a deer-resistant garden. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Advance tickets will be available at businesses in Lyme, Old Lyme, and surrounding towns, or can be purchased by mail. (Visit www.childandfamily.com/gardentour.htm for an order form, or send a check to P.O. Box 324, Old Lyme, CT 06371. If ordering lunch, please specify the day you plan to attend.)
